MailChimp to MailPoet – not happy
-
Roughly a year ago, I switched from MailChimp (free version) to MailPoet (free version) to improve integration with the rest of my website which provides free and paid subscriptions using MemberPress and using MailPoet for newsletters.
This is a decision I deeply regret. Were conversions not so time consuming, I would have restored my MailChimp account within the first month. The gains have been minimal while the disadvantages have been significant.
- The MailPoet editor lacks the functionality one expects to find in a WordPress editing application. I have always used my word processing software to draft subscriber emails so that was not a big issue for me.
- The MailPoet email editor really screws up copy drafted in Word or Google Docs which is pasted into the editor. Numbered lists and bullets must be reformatted and spacing must be added between paragraphs.
- The sending and subscriber statistics are severely reduced to the point of being useless. A paid subscription is required to view basic statistics which were provided in the free MailChimp account.
- It’s been my experience that whatever integration exists between MailPoet and MemberPress is poorly supported. I find that I must carefully review my email list subscriptions following MemberPress subscriber changes.
- I have subscribers which are members of both subscriber and (blog) follower email lists. Deleting an expired subscriber from a paid subscriber list also deletes them from the free blog list and keeping the expired subscriber clutters up the paid subscriber list
I’ve read a lot of negative comments regarding the MailPoet editor so it’s surprising we haven’t seen a major upgrade during the past year … maybe next year.
