• Ok… I am totally lost here. Someone else installed this on my site for me, and then disappeared. So now I am trying to figure it out.

    I cant even find where to find the version I am using.

    I thought I got it set up, but when I link to it… it shows the blog, but there is no way for a new user to add their own blog?? I’m sure this is something simple, but I cant find it.

    Can someone help me get this up and running please?

    Thanks
    Shine

    Ok… Ive been reading some more documentation and I dont seem to have the option to allow new users to register. I do have admin rights though. How do I add that option back?

    TIA

    Go to Settings/General in your admin panel. Under “Membership,” check “Anyone can register.”

    I dont have that option there. There isnt a ‘membership’ option at all. Just admin email, date format, time format, tagline, blog title, and ‘week starts on.’ Nothing else.

    It seems that maybe I am missing something?? Maybe lost something on the install??

    take a screen shot of your dashboard and post a link to it. then we can see version and whatnot.

    Is this a wordpress.com blog?

    Yes, it is. At least I think it is! LOL. (yes, it is)

    I’ll do a screen shot and post it.

    Actually that appears to be a regular www.remarpro.com self-installed blog, probably 2.9-ish version wise.

    You’ll have to be logged in as an administrator to view and change the “Anyone can register” setting.

    when I took that screen shot, I was logged in as admin.

    Maybe I should trash it and start over?? But how hard is it to do? I am a total rookie when it comes to things like this.

    It’s possible that your account lost admin privileges for some reason.

    Access your database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), go to the wp_users table and find the row for your user_login . Note the ID of this row. Now, go to the wp_usermeta table and find the wp_capabilities row for your user_id . Set the value of this row to a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}

    I can do that… but when I go through the desktop.. it does list me as an admin.

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

    Just because you’re listed as an admin doesn’t mean that the database has assigned you the right capabilities.

    (@shine77)

    ah.. ok. I will check that out then and report back.

    Thanks for all your help.

    Okay, I’ve got the same problem, and in checking out my database, I’ve dutifully set wp_capabilities to a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;} as suggested, without effect. I’m running a multisite, so I also set wp_4_capabilities, wp_7_capabilities and wp_8_capabilities to a:1:{s:13:”administrator”;b:1;}

    A screenshot of the relevant rows is at https://www.webgeekstress.com/images/database.png

    Ideas?

    Okay, problem resolved. I found that in my “Network Options”, registration was set to disabled. However, even changing that to User accounts may be registered still has not had the effect of enabling the Membership option: it is simply enabled by default, and I don’t seem able to disable it for specific blogs. Is this intended behavior?
