Crashes with latest version of BuddyPress?

    When we update the buddypress to version 11 the backend admin is not accessible. The memory PHP 512 limit is exhausted. We have disabled all plugins apart from this one and buddypress which causes this crash.

    Hey @haymondoooo,

    Thanks for your question. We test on BuddyPress 11 and aren’t seeing any particular spikes in performance right now. We’ve also not had any reports from other users about memory limits being exhausted.

    If you get in touch with your webhost, they may be able to use logs their end to determine what the cause of your issue is. If they can, please reply, and we can see if there is anything we can do to assist.

    Same problem here: I just installed the plugin to see how it works and, on plugin activation, WordPress says it can’t activate it because of these fatal errors:

    Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 671088640 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20480 bytes) in?[…]/wp-includes/meta.php?on line?1185

    So we can’t test it. I don’t know if it can help but consider we have a medium/bigger site with at least 30k users already registered on it.

    We increased the memory size and it again exhausted this causing fatal errors??

    Hey @haymondoooo and @budy74,

    Thanks for the extra information. Can I ask you to go into tools > health check > info, and post a copy of the information given here. Alternatively, you could use something like pastebin.com?or?gist.github.com if you don’t want to post the information on these forums. This will mean I can replicate your environment and try and find the bug.

    If you can, please enable debug mode – enabling WP_DEBUG and how to log that output to a file and how to share that file and see if you get any further error reports.

    Can you also try rolling back to BuddyPress 10, and see if the problem goes away?

    Essentially, due to the nature of free software, I need as much help as I can from you amazing users and we will try and work together to resolve this as quickly as possible. So anything you can think of that might help will be much appreciated.

    Hey @haymondoooo,

    Thanks for the information. I certainly think that your web host could increase these limits. I’m not a server expert, but I can see you have a WP_MEMORY_LIMIT defined of 40M which seems extremely low to me. I would expect this to normally be at least 256M, but as BuddyPress is such a resource intensive tool, likely much higher.

    Hey @haymondoooo,

    No problem. I still think this is something to do with your server environment. Most of my users will be on BP 11 now, so I would expect a huge rush of support tickets from our premium version. As you are on a staging site, can you please do the following:

    Switch to a default theme (such as twenty-twenty-two). Then, deactivate all plugins, and then activate BuddyPress 11, and finally BSR. This will get us to a point where it will be as if we have just installed the site. Let me know what happens.

    I have also just installed BSR and BuddyPress on a standard shared hosting account using the same theme and plugin stack as above, and outside of our test servers, to make absolutely certain there are no compatibility issues with BP 11. All activated without error.

    We cloned the site with enough resources
    Turned off all plugins, we then activated Buddy press, updated to 11 and this is fine.

    But as soon as Block, Suspend, Report for BuddyPress for Buddy Press enabled it still crashes with Fatal error:

    Thanks for trying. Okay, we will have to wait for some more data to come in, as we are currently unable to replicate this issue.

    In the meantime, I can only suggest you continue to use BuddyPress version 10, if you wish to continue using our plugin.

    Sorry if I answer just now but I wanted to debug this problem deeply since it’s not the first time it happens in our site.
    In fact, in my case, as I suspected, the problem is the number of users already registered on the site (about 50k). I discovered that if the get_users() function is called without specifying any restrictions (for example specifying only the fields that are needed, such as the user ID in this case) WordPress (rightly) gives an out-of-memory error.
    For now I’ve bypassed the problem by changing the instruction
    $users = get_users();
    in
    $users = get_users(array(‘fields’=>array(‘ID’)));
    in file ../includes/class-bp-toolkit-activator.php:71

    solving the problem.

    I advise you to correct the instruction to prevent other users from falling into this problem.

    Hi, in my case it was enough, but it’s just a temp solution to test the plugin. Future release will overwrite script modifications.
    I’m not the plugin developer so you have to wait their answer for your specific problem.

    I’m sure @bouncingsprout will make you know what’s best to solve your problem (assuming the problem is the same).
