can't upload images to local server via my wordpresssite.

    Please can someone help.
    I have wordpress 3.0.1 installed on my local server. I am trying to add some images to my site but am unable to upload images , and get the following message.

    Unable to create directory /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    There was not even a folder called uploads, so I created one, but that has made no difference. Can anyone help?
