Website uses (too) much Physical Memory: how to figure out cause
-
Hello, regularly we get the message “The connection waiting time has expired”. This happens in the backend but also frontend. Also, last week I got three days 1 notification from Uptime Robot that the site was unreachable (lasted <2 minutes). At times when there are no/barely any visitors and and no one is administering.
Perhaps there are different causes for these two problems. From the administrator, I understand that at the three times last week, (too) much Physical Memory is being requested and errors occur as a result. I see this reflected in the graphs they sent me at the same times. According to hosting party, there are then processes running in the background. I know that Updraft’s automatic backup process was not running at those times. I can’t get access to DirectAdmin. I do get access to phpAdmin.
Question 1: How can I find out which process(es) are taking up so much memory in the background?
For the page loading problem, I want to do the following: thin out some plugins, use WP-Sweep once and maybe start using WP Super Cache. Although I don’t notice any difference with the latter on a test website yet.
Question 2: Are there any other options?
Thanks for thinking with me!
