Hi @fab418,
Thanks for reaching out. If you’re performing a check from within the Optimizer platform, you may need to be logged out of your site first. I mention this as the default configuration for a Site Kit placed Analytics snippet is to not include logged in traffic. This can result in your Optimize check not determining the Analytics snippet, which it depends on,
Can you perform a check once more, while logged out of your site? If the same occurs please share your Site Health information so I can check your current set up. As this just started to occur for you since yesterday we can check for anything impacting your Optimize check or Analytics snippet behaviour.
Hi James,
Thanks for the reply. I actually read a few topics here and tried that already. Did it again just now and I confirm that I get the same error when logged out.
I just submitted my site health info through the online form. Many thanks for sharing these additional insights. I’ve checked your public REST endpoints and I can see your site URLs reference the domain without the en/ path. What could be happening in your case, is Optimize not to be able to find a snippet on your root domain name.
In order to investigate this further, can you temporarily deactivate Polylang, or ensure your site is accessible on it’s root domain without redirecting to a /en path? After doing so, logout of your site and perform another check.
Let me know how you get on with that. If the same occurs, we may need to check your Optimize configurations, or review a recording of your experience.
Unfortunately it shows the same error with the Polylang deactivated and me logged out.
For reference, it was working with Polylang active before yesterday.
When I look at the header code in the console, I see a lot of googletagmanager related code and the nalytics snippet (old and GA4) but can’t see the Optimize snippet. If that can help.Sorry to hear that @fab418. So we can understand more on this, can you share a screen recording of what you’re experiencing? You can use a service such as Loom or RecordIt to share, while sharing via this link if preferred to share privately.
Once we have this we can investigate this further.

Edit: The Optimize snippet has been placed, it’s just a matter of determining why the check is failing. Have you tried from a Chrome browser incognito window?

Hi James,
Thanks for the quick reply. I just sent a Loom link via the form.
Many thanks for sharing @fab418. I’ve checked your recording and I didn’t spot anything that mat be causing this. I checked your Analytics tag and my own site visit is being tracked, indicating all is good with your Site Kit placed Analytics snippet. I can also see that there is a request with the correct Optimize ID made.
The next check we can perform, is to see whether your consent type plugin is impacting your Optimize check. In order to do so, you can temporarily disable CookieYes, before then logging into Optimize once more from a Chrome browser incognito window and checking once more?
If the same occurs, can you share the Analytics property you have connected within your Optimize configurations? I’m curious to see does it match the same property connected within Site Kit. If your experiments were working until yesterday I’m also curious to know is this a new experiment, given you have to perform a check before this is setup successfully.
Thanks for the answer.
I just went ahead and deactivated every plugin on the site except Site Kit and I still get the error. I sent Loom of my Analytics properties as well through the form.
The ids seem to be correct but I noticed that the GA4 property does not seem linked to Optimize.
Thanks for sharing the additional recording. I can see you have linked Optimize within Analytics. As the recording doesn’t display your Optimize settings have you selected your GA4 property or the UA property with your Optimize settings (and not your Analytics settings). I suspect this may be the problem, as Site Kit has attached your Optimize Experiment ID to your Universal Analytics (UA) property (screenshot).
Can you check your Optimize settings, and assign the UA property as opposed to the GA4 property, before checking once more?
Hi James, I sent another Loom showing my Optimize settings. They are linked to the UA property. In fact, the GA property isn’t even available in the settings dropdown in Optimize.

Many thanks for going to the effort of sharing another recording, very useful to see. Your configurations at Optimize level seem correct, as do your Analytics configurations.
To troubleshoot this further, there are a couple of things we can try given you’ve already tested this with all other plugins deactived:
- You can disconnect the Analytics module within Site Kit, then manually insert your own Analytics snippet. After doing so you can perform a check at Optimize level once more. Reconnecting the Analytics module can be done afterwards if you wish, removing your own snippet and using the Site Kit placed snippet, or keeping your own in place, which Site Kit can use for reporting.
- You can try change the setting within Site Kit to include all users in Analytics reporting. I mention this as maybe your own site visits are not counted due to browser or page caching. After changing this setting login to Optimize from a Chrome browser incognito window and perform the same check once more.
Let me know how you get on with the above. If the same occurs with a non Site Kit placed Analytics snippet, we may need reach out to the product experts at the Optimize Help Center, or perform some testing with a test site from our side with a similar set up to your own.
Hi James,
- I just tried it and it gives the same error
- I’m not able to do this on my end because whenever I try to “check the installation” in Optimize on an incognito window, I get a message telling me to “install the Optimize Chrome extension”, then I click install and I see the extension is already there but with a message telling that you can’t install extensions in incognito: https://imgur.com/3jo3Q5N
Appreciate you checking this.
Regarding not being able to check incognito, there is a way to make existing extensions work incognito. Right click on the extension, then click on “Manage extension” and then look for the “Allow incognito” option.
Let me know you get on with this check.
Hi James,
Allowed all users in Site Kit, logged out of WordPress.
Allowed the Optimize extension in incognito mode, allowed all cookies in incognito (needed for Optimize check to work as well), checked the installation. Got the same Optimize installation not found error.
