I manage several Woocommerce installations. One of them is running 6.2.2, while another one runs 6.9. I have noticed that, when getting into “Appearance / Plugins” in the admin page, the one with 6.2.2 doesn’t show next to Woocommerce the “there is a new version of this plugin” warning, while the one with 6.9 does.

Why is that? When reading the release notes of each version in the Dev. site, all it says about each version is that “this version should be compatible with the previous one”, and I haven’t been able to find any warning about backwards-incompatible changes, even in v.7.0. (If we want to be pedantic, if every version “should be compatible with the previous one” from v6.0 at least, then there shouldn’t be any incompatibilities at all).

Also, in this case, how should I update Woocommerce? (I do have staging sites for both installations). Should I just download and install the new version, or should I delete the old version first and then install the new one?

Please refer to this support documentation on How To Update WooCommerce.

    Hope this helps!

Uhhh… thanks for your answer, but I already read the page you are referring to and took note of its advice to use a staging server (which I do have). I don’t see there, however, any mention to the specific question I asked: do I install the new Woocommerce “over” the old one, or do I uninstall the old one first before installing the second?

    Hi @pauljbis

You can simply delete the older version and upload the new copy of the plugin on the staging website first. If everything goes well, then you can do the same things on live website.

    I hope that helps!

Thanks. I’ll give it a try and see what happens.
