On the Tests page the ‘Add New’ button is greyed out and the following message is displayed.

    Connection failed

Something went wrong while connecting to the external service. If you just installed the plugin, refresh this page in a bit.

The website must be publicly accessible in order to set up and run the tests. Password protection or any kind of firewall might prevent the plugin from working correctly.

The website is accessible. This looks like the same issue as the 1 star review that someone left. How long should I have to wait before refreshing the page to get it to work?

Hey @peterpjww, the connection usually shouldn’t take longer than 1 minute. We would like to investigate your specific case. Could you please send the domain of the website to [email protected] or post it here?

Hi. I’ve emailed you the domain.

Hey @peterpjww, thanks for the information and further exchange via email!

Unfortunately, as your webhost seems to have a Web Application Firewall (WAF) installed, our plugin’s connection requests don’t seem to come through, but result in a 410 Unauthorized response from your website.

Currently, we’re trying to connect via the WordPress REST API and if that fails, we’re falling back to an admin-ajax request. Looks like we’ll need another fallback that doesn’t rely on push messages from the outside, but will rather fetch results with outgoing requests from the plugin website to our service (maybe with a cronjob).

We will be working on a solution. However, this likely will take some time. I hope in the meantime, you’ll have another website that works with our plugin?and that you will find it useful!

OK, thanks for the update. Let me know if you want me to try again after you have a solution.

@peterpjww With v1.3, we just rolled out an overhauled flow to receive the test results. It includes a fallback to pull in the test results via WP-Cron.

Could you please see if that works for you?

Please note that the default configuration of the WordPress cron system does not work reliably if you cache your site heavily, do not have frequent visitors or do not use wp-admin regularly. That’s why we advise to?hook the WP-Cron into the system task scheduler, or to use an external cron job scheduling service.

I’ve just tried adding a test, and that worked OK now after your update. I’ll look into the cron job settings if there are any problems getting alerts.

Great! I’m happy to hear that.
