I need to delete this plugin as it’s not suitable for the website I tried to use it on, but I’m getting an error message “you cannot delete plugin while it’s active on the main site” even though I’m not using WP multi-site, and the plugin is deactivated. That’s an ongoing issue with that particular site that I can’t seem to find a solution to other then a clean wordpress install which the client does not want to do, so for now I’m stuck with having to manually delete unused plugins.

So the problem is, I’m in FTP, looking in the plugins folder, where plugin files normally are, but no folder for Backup Migrate. Where is the plugin located if not in the plugins folder?

EDIT: Found the folder, under the odd name of backup-backup – had to refresh my ftp display to get it to show up.

    Hi @radiantfreedom

I know that you said you’re not on a WP Multi-site, but issue you described sounds like this. Even notification you received: you cannot delete plugin while it’s active on the main site tell that there is more than one site.

Everything you described may happen while you’re not logged in as Super-Admin but only as sub-site account.

Slug of our plugin is backup-backup it should be located under wp-content/plugins directory unless you’re on multisite with modified content structure. In such case the plugin may be in sub-site plugins directory.

You can play around and try to reproduce mentioned scenario on live sandbox there: https://tastewp.com (you can create multistep here as well).

Let me know if there is any further assistance needed ??
    Thank you!

I haven’t used WP multi site except briefly back in 2015, but the wording did make me wonder. If that’s the error that’s triggering, it has to be a bug, because that’s most definitely NOT a milti-site setup, it’s just a basic WordPress install.

But that part sounds like something I’ll have to take up as a support issue with the wordpress core devs to figure out what’s going on with that site.

Thanks for your quick response, though, that is a mark in your favor.
