    Hi,

I love your table and thank you very much for creating it. I know this topic has been addressed in the past, but I see there was no resolution at that time and was wondering if your new version (2.0) will help with it. I have literally been several days now trying to update (override) letters A-Z in my “List of Children” on my website with new data. There are several thousand names under each letter. I keep getting the dreaded “Page unresponsive” message.

Thanks so much. I’m hoping for good news regarding this being addressed in the new version.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Yes, TablePress 2.0 will making editing of large tables much faster! You are welcome to give it a try already! The current test version is very stable already. Please see https://tablepress.org/8-million-downloads-tablepress-2-0/ for more.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Thanks so much! Will the test version override/retain all of my current data? Or would I wait until the final version/plugin is released for that option? I just want to be sure I don’t lose any existing data, etc. if I update to the 2.0 test version.

    Hi,

no worries, you won’t lose any data. It’s just a normal plugin update that only affects the PHP files. You can already test now. The final version won’t receive many further changes.

Of course, I recommend to have backups of your tables in any case, independent from plugin updates. For that, just export your tables to e.g. the CSV format (which can be read in Excel) and the JSON format (which is the internal format TablePress uses).

    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

I have an issue that may or may not be related to version 2.0 (on the same “List of Children” in the website referenced above). I deleted the letters I split into two groups, B, C, H, M, and S (previously had them split as like Ha-Hd and He-Hy, etc. and now just have B, C, H, M, and S without any divisions, but they are not appearing in the Page view – just in the Table view, and will not appear on my website. I see the shortcode all seems to match. Any ideas here? Thx.

I got all but letters B, M, and S working (had to change the url), and it appears there are too many rows in letters B, M, and S for them to work. Letters C and H had 6,794 and 6, 379 rows, but letter B has 7,733, letter M has 10,232, and letter S has 7,998. Are too many rows still an issue with version 2.0? I may have to split each letter up again, which isn’t ideal as the letters A-Z are then all very close together in the table header area on my website.

    Hi,

I can’t imagine this being a problem coming from TablePress. When I checked the URLs, I got a 404 error, which would be strange. If there were something like a memory issue, it would have to be a 500 error.

Can you maybe, just for a test, add the full table for letter B to e.g. the page for letter A? We know that the page and URL for table A are working, so if suddenly that breaks when all you change is the table, that’s something where we can continue the investigation.

    Tobias

Thanks, Tobias. I added table B to Table A as you suggested and it worked fine. I’m not sure what on earth is going on. I split up letters B, H, M, and S again after first messaging you yesterday, but if you have any ideas on how to get them back in as individual letters please let me know. I guess I could try creating a new table for each of the letters and see if it will let me add all data under one letter without splitting them up. Letter “B” had 7,733 rows. Do you know of any limitations on the number of rows in TablePress? Thanks again!

    (@ckidder)

Well, I spoke too soon. All went well with letter B, but letter M, not so much. The preview looks fine in the Table view, but not on the Page preview and it is not showing up on my website.

In addition to letter M, letter S is also not working. M has 10,232 rows and S has 8,950.

I sent ahead and split them into two parts again for now.

    Hi,

I’m still a bit confused here. Are you saying that as soon as you are adding a longer table to the page from https://newyorkjuvenileasylum.com/list-of-children/list-of-children-s/ , that page is no longer working but only showing that 404 Not found error?
Can you then maybe check the server’s error log for any hints here? I just don’t see who/what would be throwing that error then…

    Regards,
    Tobias
