WooCommerce using default server email to send order notifications to customers

    Hello!

    Today I discovered a problem: when I manually send order details to my customers, they receive it from the default server email address that looks like gibberish. I have set my self-hosted email (ie. [email protected]) as the “from” email in the WooCommerce emails settings, and it’s the admin email for the store/WordPress installation. I actually had no idea WP would use a default server email until today, when a customer sent an Interac email transfer to the server email instead of my store email.

    Is there a way to make sure the [email protected] email is used for all notifications to my customers?

    (Sorry if this has been discussed on here before, but I wasn’t able to find anything related when I searched.)

    Firstly, I apologized for the delayed response.

    I actually had no idea WP would use a default server email until today, when a customer sent an Interac email transfer to the server email instead of my store email.

    I understand that a different email was used as the sender on your site instead of what you have set up on your Email Settings: [email protected], is that correct?

    Can you please share with us a clear screenshot of the email received by your customer so that we could check this further?

    I’d like to understand your site properly, can you please share your System Status Report, that will help us further troubleshoot.

    You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

    As a first step, kindly update your PHP version to 7.4 or greater as this is one of the minimum server recommendations to run WooCommerce smoothly.

MailerLite - WooCommerce integration: by MailerLite – 1.7.14

    Can you please deactivate these plugins and try to replicate the scenario above and see if this works?

    Thank you for your response! The trouble is, when I try to replicate it by sending a note on an order, it comes from the correct email. (I had never seen a customer get something from the server email before this one customer.) The PHP is updated now but I wonder if there was a brief window where WP/WC was incompatible with PHP 7.3.3 but I hadn’t updated it yet and that’s why it happened? In any case, it doesn’t seem to be doing it anymore, so I’ll count my blessings and keep away from trying to fix something that’s no longer broken! Thanks!!
