We have installed the Content Control plugin and it works as it should on menus and widgets. However, we are unable to block pages or content.

If someone uses the links that appear in the bread-crumbs, we want those parent pages to be blocked. I’ve added restrictions to the pages however they don’t seem to stop access.

As the example, for the page /people-profiles, the control action is set to redirect to homepage, if the selected page is “Staff or Leaders”(people-profiles) or if any selected page is a child of that same “Staff or Leaders”(people-profiles)

I know the plugin works, I just can’t figure out what I am doing incorrectly so as to block the pages and content.

Similarly, we have a PDF that is part of our content. We set a similar block if that PDF is selected by anyone but “Author, Editor” however if anyone plugs in the URL for that particular PDF, it will display.

Can you advise what we are doing wrong

    Thanks

    Hi @paulproe,

Could you share your current restriction settings?

For the media like PDFs, the plugin restricts access to media at the content level via the media attachment pages. Content Control does not restrict access at the server level to actual media files (e.g.: .jpg, .gif, .pdf, and .webp files).

We look forward to your response.

I apologize, I am not 100% familiar with your app and don’t know exactly what restriction settings you are looking for.

We are trying to block access to three website pages and one PDF that is accessed via a hyperlink in a menu.

For the pages, on the content control screen, we selected ‘Logged in Users’ and selected everyone (check mark) except ‘subscriber’. The protection is set to move them to the homepage. The content is set to A Selected Page and the page we want to block is in the next field.

For the Media, it is set similarly except on the content it is set to ‘A selected Media’ and the media/PDF is in the next block.

On our Widgets pages, which do work properly, Who can see is set to “Logged In Users” and then all but subscribers are checked. This prevents this widget from displaying to anyone who is not logged in and anyone who is solely a ‘subscriber’ This one works fine.

Are there other settings you are looking for?

    Hi @paulproe,

    Thanks for the response.

Pages: This setting sounds correct. Are you creating restriction rules per page? Since you mentioned some pages are a child of another page, can you try using the ‘Is Pages: Child Of’ option?

PDF: The setting is correct, BUT as mentioned, the restriction will only happen at the content level via the media attachment pages. This means the direct file to the PDF can still be accessed. Please see: https://share.getcloudapp.com/4gu4QxWd

Please try the one I suggested above for the pages. Let us know how it goes.

    Hi @paulproe

I’m going to mark this as resolved, as we haven’t heard from you in a while.

Feel free to create a new thread if you have any other questions.

    Thank you!
