Suddenly have an issue with images not displaying properly in the visual editor when inserted into new posts from the media library. They should be the full width of the column inserted into, but are less than half that large now. However, these same images display properly (full size) if used as the featured image. Previously published posts are still fine as long as I don’t try to add any new images to them. Newly published posts and previews exhibit exactly the same issues seen in the visual editor.

Tried disabling all plug-ins, but that didn’t help. When Classic Editor is deactivated, images display correctly using the Gutenberg (block) editor.

Site is on a shared server through Bluehost. Running Twenty Fifteen theme, PHP version 7.3, and the following plug-ins in addition to Classic Editor: WP Edit, Really Simple SSL, Jetpack, Akismet Anti-Spam.

Existing front end still looks fine, but I can’t create new content that displays properly. How can I fix this?

Been playing around with this, and have now discovered that the issue is that the Classic Editor visual editor is now loading medium-sized images (300×225), instead of full size images (2560×1920) from the Media Library.

After insertion into the post, I can click on the medium-sized image and edit it to full size. This works, but is very clumsy, since each image must be individually edited this way.

Apparently some default setting has been changed? How do I reset it so that the full size images in the Media Library get automatically inserted into the post like they used to be?

Found the drop box where the image size can be selected. Not a Classic Editor plug-in issue. Issue resolved.
