    I’ve installed the final 1.5 WordPress which I love. After playing with the Betas and Alphas, it was an easy upgrade to the final. I’ve also installed the post level plugin so I can create posts that only registered users can see.

    Now, I want to restrict access to only those people who register to see private information on the site, and I’ve succeeded. Changing the post level plugin, users can register for the site, and have a level of Zero, but they can read private posts.

    Now I want the option of having people register, but I need to approve their accounts. I could have them register, and if their level is 1 or greater read posts, but I don’t want people to be able to post and Level 1 lets them create their own drafts.

    I just want people to be able to register, and I activate their account for read only access. Once approved accounts to have the ability to read everything, but only write comments.

    What do I change? Make it so only level 1 or great can read and edit word press to stop level 1 people from drafting? Or is there a way to force all accounts to be approved by me first?

    Any suggestions on how to change the User Levels so that a new user can’t create new posts?

    I imagine that will require editing some admin files, but that’s find just where?

    That or is it possible to implement admin approval of all users?

    Try the following in the admin UI.

    Options->Writing->Newly registered members:->Cannot write articles

    I’ve used that. But it doesn’t get what I need.
    I’m trying to create a blog that has both public and private posts.
    Private posts you need to register and be approved by me the administrator. I want a level where users can read and comment the private posts, but not make draft posts or any posts for that matter.

    I’m using the post levels plugin so I can post to registered users only.
    So now people can register, but they can see all posts without my approval. If I change the post level to 1 then users can’t see the private posts, but when I promote selected users, they can then write drafts.

    I’ve tweaked the user_menu.php to change the levels there and that seems to meet my needs, but is that really the right thing to do?

    I’ve been kludging a solution for that with 1.2.2, and it’s not pretty. It’s almost bad enough to make me set up a second install, but I don’t want to make ‘certain people’ go to two places to read everything.

    Ideally I suppose I want a way to group userIDs together and say “this group can read everything” and “that group can only read blah”. Still searching for a suitable plugin.

    Using the Post Levels plugin (https://fortes.com/projects/wordpress/postlevels) and making all private posts appear to users of level 1 or greater seems to have worked. Then I changed the user_menu.php so only Users with Level 2 or greater can get to the posting functions.

    Now I have users register and can leave a comment, but they can’t post even drafts. Then users I promote to level 1 can see the private posts.
