Blog posts attacked by symbols

Hope someone can push me in the right direction – many of my blog posts have been attacked by symbols.

What I mean is, things that were apostrophes, quotation marks, even blank spaces have been replaced by symbols.

And when I try to edit the symbols out and update, only the first few lines are left – the rest is deleted altogether.

What can I do?
