• I’ve been using WordPress for the past few weeks and am really enjoying it. I now want to setup a Photo journal (photoblog) on my site. But want it separate to my blog.

Is there a WordPress plugin that I could use to make a Photo Journal with the same functionality as this -> https://www.intransient.com/photojournal/

It’s fairly simple, but i’ve been looking around and can’t seem to find one. I’ve even asked the people at that site what they use.. MovableType. Which I don’t want to use (perl… yukky).

    Any advice muchly appreciated.

    Cheers.

  • Pictorialis is probably what you’re looking for, kuttnhaste ??

Yeah that’s the one i’ve had my eyes on the most.

Hopefully I can work out a way to upgrade WordPress with it rather than doing a fresh install. Haven’t looked at it yet.

    Thanks JuneBleeds

Laughing Lizard said recently that he might start working on a plugin for 1.5 for pictorialis. And Morydd has started work on integrating Pictorialis II into 1.5. but so far it is just the front end and nothing backend.

Is Pictorialis more of a tool for putting images in your blog posts? Because that’s not what I’m after. I don’t really need my photo journal to tie into my blog at all. It’s something separate…

No, currently they are separate installs. I use Pictorialis II on my site (with one page lifted from Pictorialis I). It creates albums and thumbnails. I think Pictorialis I doesn’t have album capability, but I’m not sure.

Does Pictorialis let you archive images by months?

    Yeah, I believe so.

    Here’s the original test site.

It’s kind of ugly, but everything can be styled of course, so don’t judge it by that. ??

Ah yeah. I see. I’m planning on doing a photo-a-day type thing. So I just have to make a middle page for the archives that displays all the months as links (no thumbs). Then they can select a month and view it’s thmubnails like this -> https://www.intransient.com/photojournal/

you should seriously consider https://coppermine.sourceforge.net because if you plan to have a lot of photos, specially every day, or more, there’s no better way to organize them. plus, it’s seperate from WP. so if anything happens to WP you dont lose your photos. it’s the best. then you just upload a photo into coppermine and link to it in your blog entry. you can also have links from gallery back to blog. you can also use coppermineFetch to grab images from gallery to display like in menu of your blog or ANY php page for that matter.

I’ve checked Copper Mine before and it seems a little heavy for what I want, which is a simple 1 image per day photo album. categorised by months.
