Cannot install themes

  • I just installed my first WP. Like it so far but having a problem with themes. The function to install themes directly results in a blank page and nothing else happens.

    I uploaded a couple via FTP and tried to manage them but the page to manage themes has no themes at all listed. The left hand menu is there but the area where the list of themes should be is blank.

    Ideas?
