Don’t change the thumbnail image from product gallery on variation selection

To make sure if we are on the same page, please provide a link to the product, that way I can check.

WooCommerce by default should show the variation image as soon as the customer selects the variation. You can set a pre-defined image, when you edit the product. Please refer to the screenshot below.

The variation images works fine on selection, but I was wondering if you can only update the big image (not the thumbnail images) when you select a variation (only the red rectangle in my screenshot and not the blue rectangle)

I understand you would like only the main image to be changed? Correct? You can set the main image per variation. Go to Products, look for the product, edit it, and move to the variations tab. Please check my screenshot below:

I’m sorry for replying late, but unfortunately this is not what I’m looking for.
I want to have different images for the variations, and on variation selection, the main image should update, but not the thumbnail image.

This would need customization to do it since this is the expected behavior especially if the variation has its own image like here:
