• I recently moved my blog to a new location (new server) on my webhost. I took the opportunity to also upgrade my WP from 2.8.6 to 3.0.

I used fantastico to install the new WP. I changed my name servers. With ftp I uploaded my photos and plugins. I exported my database from the old and imported to the new.

It has been almost 48 hours since I changed my name servers. For the last 20 hours, I have been able to access my new dashboard and edit all my pages.

But I can’t see my actual website!!! Every time I arrive at a ‘place holder’ page of my webhost.

I tried deactivating my plugins. Still same problem.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

  • make sure you moved your entire wp-contents folder over to the new server with all of your files, and theme files that you might require.

if your blog files are not in the root directory but say in a folder called “blog” you need to ensure this is set in your dashboard as well and that you have copied and edited the two files you need to move into the root directory to run your blog.

are all the wordpress files in the root directory on the new server?

Thank you MJEG for your attention!

I copied everything from my contents folder except:

    — in Themes folder there ia a file: index.php
    — in Plugins folder: index.php
    — uploads folder: a foler: image and a folder: wpsc
    — and then outside of all these folders there is a file in the contents folder: index.php

was I supposed to overwrite these files and folders over what fantastico put in?

My blog is in the root directory.

i’m not sure if i understand your reply as to what exactly you copied, however i notice that I can not access your website.

    has the issue been resolved?

MJEG – thank you for your assistance.

Yes, my web host was able to help me:

He said that index.html was still in my root. So he deleted it.

    And it’s working now!!!

I just don’t understand what exactly happened. I don’t think I put such a file in the root.

I installed WP with Fantastico De Luxe. Did this program fail to delete this file that it should have?

    Thanks again!

Actually, at this point I still can only see my home page. I can’t see any other pages!

Above, I was trying to explain that amongst the WordPress files, I didn’t overwrite the various index.php files that Fantastico De Luxe had installed — with the index.php files from my site’s previous location.

Does anyone know if I did right?

they may have been an index.html file in there by default and normally you replace this with your own when uploading a website (because wordpress doesn’t use html files), but since your using wordpress you didnt upload one. installing wordpress would not delete other files off of your server; that could potentially cause some serious problems for people.

since you have a new wordpress install, i bet this is your problem. with a new install i believe you need to import your previous posts and files.

or create the pages a new and then replace the files, or copy and paste the html content of the page over when you create it again.

esentially what i’m tyring to say is you didnt just move your files you have a new install of wordpress and it doesnt know to recognize all the old stuff.
