    Hello

After 3.0 update, the homepage is fixed on a default template and the theme overrides any change.

I tried changing homepage (e.g. to the shop page) via the customizer and in Settings/Reading but neither worked.

The funniest thing is that when you try editing the homepage, the editor shows the content of the chosen page and not that showing in thew frontend: if you set the Shop as Homepage, in the frontend you see the default content and in the editor you have the actual shop page content.

When I check in the FSE for page templates, there is a FrontPage template, but if I try to assign it to my page it does not show in the editor’s page template choices.

    What did I miss?

    Hi @elenaocone,

Prior to the 0.3 update to Poe, the theme used the home.html template file to display the front page. The issue with this approach was that it prevented the blog index from being accessible, so in version 0.3, home.html was replaced with front-page.html. This also makes the template structure consistent with my other block themes that have a dedicated front page template (Beaumont and Bj?rk).

You can edit the contents of the front page by going to Appearance → Editor → WordPress logo in the top left → Templates → “Front Page”. If you’ve added your front page content to a different page previously, or if you’ve added content to home.html in prior versions of Poe, you can copy the blocks from that page/template and add it here.

If you want to display your blog index on the front page, you can go to Settings → Reading, set “Your homepage displays” to “A static page”, leave “Homepage:” empty and set “Posts page:” to your page for posts.

Sorry for the inconvenience the update has caused. It’s tricky to adjust these things after launch, but it was a necessary long-term change for the theme.

Hello Anders, and thanks for the prompt reply

I have managed to restore most of the home content. Having difficulties in pasting blocks from another page, I made them reusable ??
Unfortunately some blocks have encountered errors in the update and must be rebuilt because they aren’t editable anymore, but it’s ok.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all the work you gift to WordPress community: I love your themes since Baskerville, and Poe was able to make me actually want to dive into FSE.

    All the best

I ran into the same issue after updating the Poe theme= frontpage was overwritten by sample-content. I did as you recommended pasting the blocks. Since I had access to my previous frontpage-template I just turned all the blocks there to reusable blocks to use them on the new frontpage-template (authored by Poe). That worked well for me.

You probably will not know whether you would have to do changes to the frontpage template in the future, right? I guess, it is hard for you to make predictions of this sort, given that FSE is still in Beta.

What would you recommend as a good way of preparing for further updates? Does it make sense to keep a set of custom template parts or rather reuse blocks as I did?

I really love your themes. Keep up all the good work you are doing for the wordpress community. Happy new year

    Hi @entlein,

Sorry to hear about that. It’s difficult to say for sure, but you can’t really guarantee there won’t be issues in the future when the design is entwined with the content like it is in block themes. I don’t think there will be a similar issue for the front page specifically, though.

I’d recommend making changes to the included templates and template parts when you need to. Even if you could run into other issues in the future, it is the way block themes are meant to be used, so hopefully the work done in Core will make it a smoother ride down the road.

Thanks for you kind words, and (a late) happy new year to you too!
