My website shows two analytics G4 codes

Thanks for reaching out. I’ve checked your site manually and by using the tagassistant.google.com service. From doing so I can see different GA4 tracking codes firing. Can you share the following and we can investigate this further?

1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
2. Do you have your Google Analytics property connected to a GA4 property at Analytics level? I ask as when inspecting the details of both GA4 snippets, they both seem connected to the same Universal Analytics (UA) property. You can check this by visiting analytics.google.com, and checking your UA property settings.

Once we have the above we can investigate this further. It may just be a case that you need to change the connected GA4 property to the same GA4 property at Analytics level.

I have sent the site health information through the given forum.

In my analytics account, there are two properties. One is universal and the other is ga4 property. There was another GA4 property but I deleted that as I mentioned above (for the www version. I didn’t use the www version). I have linked that deleted property previously to is Sitekit plugin. But when I check the site settings yesterday and I noticed that I have linked the GA4 property for the www version. Then I updated it to the GA4 property that is responsible root domain version because I didn’t use the www version. You can see the updated measurement id in the site health info. Other measurement ID belongs to the old deleted property.

Many thanks for sharing the additional information. It looks like the property G-SBC****S1V is the one not inserted via Site Kit.

Can you check your code snippets plugin, or temporarily deactivate this plugin and I can check your site once more once you let me know when it’s deactivated? It’s also possible you may have placed this into your theme files directly.

Note also that this isn’t directly a Site Kit specific issue, as Site Kit didn’t insert this snippet on your site. We will hopefully determine how you added this regardless.

I checked the site with google analytics disconnected via the Sitekit plugin a few hours ago. After that, I checked, and Both codes disappeared. That is why I suspected this is related to the Sitekit plugin. When I reconnect, Then both appeared. I haven’t used any other plugin to insert analytics code. I can assure you that. Also, I reset the rank math plugin to use the correct property but that didn’t fix the issue.

So we can investigate this further can you please share the following:

1. Do you have your Google Analytics property connected to a GA4 property at Analytics level? You can check this by visiting analytics.google.com, and checking your UA property settings. Please look for the “Connected GA4 property”.
2. Can you disconnect the Google Analytics module within Site Kit and let me know once this is done. I’ll then check your site once more.

Once we have the above we can investigate this further. We may need to perform a check using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin if we can’t determine anything based on the above. Your site also have various optimizations performed, so we can need to ask you to temporary deactivate your optimization/performance related plugins to check.

I have diactivated the analytics module now.

I don’t see any Analytics tracking tags on your site now that you’ve disconnected Analytics.

Can you go ahead and disconnect the GA4 property at Analytics level, before then connecting Analytics once more within Site Kit? I want to check the status when there is no GA4 property connected at Analytics level.

I disconnected the analytics ga4 property from the universal property and then I connected the analytics in the Sitekit plugin. But in the Sitekit dashboard it shows properties I have disabled in analytics levels are still connected.

You can edit your Analytics settings within Site Kit, to connect to your preferred GA4 or UA property (Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Analytics > Edit). It doesn’t matter if they are not connected at Analytics level. Please connect to your preferred UA and GA4 property and I’ll check your site once more. Let me know once complete.

Hi, thank you for your support! The problem was solved. The problem was a tag belonging to a deleted GA4 property connected to the universal property in the analytics account. So it loaded both codes into the website even though the GA4 property was deleted.
