• Hi there.

    I have two sites. https://www.greenmystyle.com and https://www.queensofvintage.com. I am using wordpress 3.0.

The problem is pretty severe. The sites won’t fully load. At least a half of all images won’t load and then the sites time out. Often I can’t even get the style sheets to load. Also, often the cms won’t load. The error 404 page is the most viewed page on greenmystyle.com this month :(.

The host says that there are ‘mystery spikes” in the server load, which he says is causing the sites to time out. The sites aren’t heavily trafficked, certainly not since this problem, and I am struggling to know what to do next. Is anyone able to help me please, with an idea about the next step?

I would be very grateful for any thoughts.

    Warm wishes

    Sarah

  • Disable each plugin one at a time. Have you tried doing that? If so, did this occur when you started using your theme? Sometimes, themes have zany loops and queries that are horrendous enough to take over Carthage, if you know what I mean.

Yes, I agree with joehuffman, start by disabling the plugins one at a time and seeing if there is any difference in performance. If it’s not the plugins, try using another theme to see if the theme is the culprit. If you still have the same problem, then it could be a problem with the server itself.

thank you for the replies everyone. i have disabled the plugins one at a time and also tried a different theme. there has been no improvement. the host is saying it’s definitely not a problem with the server.

Do you (or anybody else) have any other thoughts please?

    Many thanks.

Who are you using for a host?

You may want to look into caching software.
