Not well maintained and slow to scan content

  • I’ll start by first saying that I am a Premium customer who will NOT be renewing.

    My biggest and most important gripe is that the devs really don’t seem to give 2 clicks about customer support questions.

    Yoast throws an error if you store your images on a CND because they use “filescan()” to get meta info about an image.

    Yoast PHP 8.0 support is sketchy with PHP 8.1 throwing numerous deprecation errors.

    A hack for the filescan() problem can be found on stack overflow, but you have to put it in with each update of the plugin. Who has time for that? And this is a bug that’s been open for over a year or more.

    Read the support section here and you will find threads closed with roughly a “we are working on it” response. PHP 8.1 deprecation was brought up EIGHT MONTHS AGO.

    First of all, we’d like to point out that all our plugins are actively maintained. We’re a big fan of continuous delivery and currently release every two weeks. Each release contains bug fixes, compatibility and security improvements, and new plugin features. You can learn more about our release cycle in this article.

    In your review, you expressed two concerns, and we’ve addressed them below.

    CDN images

    Yoast SEO v19.7 will include a fix for the issue you were experiencing with images served from CDNs. We’d kindly ask you to update to that plugin version (when it’s released) and check if the problem resolves for you.

    PHP 8.0 and 8.1 compatibility

    At the moment WordPress itself only provides beta support for PHP 8.0 and 8.1 as you can see on this page. As for our plugin, Yoast SEO v19.6.1 works pretty well on PHP 8.1 (and the latest version of WordPress v6.0.2). You may get a couple of deprecation notices, but please please note that they’re not errors. A deprecation notice is an indicator of where additional work is needed for compatibility before PHP 9. With a deprecation notice, the PHP code will continue to work and nothing is broken. That said, our developers are continuously working on improving our compatibility with both PHP 8.0 and 8.1.
