• Resolved tilepattern

    Hi,

I installed a single page from one of your starter templates (the home page of “Heather’s Kitchen”, it also installed a plugin called “Recipe Card Blocks by WPZOOM”) and the customise page is now completely blank.

I tried disabling ALL the plugins, then deleting them, then disabling Kadence, deleting it and re-installing it. Nothing helps.

I don’t know enough to dig into the code of my site to find the problem.

Please can you help — I really don’t want to have to rebuild my website all over again. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Sorry to hear this! Your host should be able to backup for you so I suggest reaching out to them.
Installing one site should not leave your customizer blank. Can you post a link?

    Kindly,
    Hannah

    Hi Hannah,

I had a backup and that didn’t resolve the problem.

When I contacted my host, they said I needed to pay one of their developers to resolve the problem.

I’ve already spent days trying to fix this and there is no money in the budget for a developer.

Given all that I’ve mentioned trying, can you give me any other information on what might be causing a blank customiser?

    Thanks

Well, I don’t understand what happened — whether it’s an issue with my host, Word Press or something about the Kadence starter template and/or the accompanying plugin.

I have tried and tried to dig up an answer on the web with no success. I give up, and am going to wipe everything and start all over again.

Of course, I will constantly worry the blank customise page will suddenly happen again, but as I don’t know what caused it in the first place there is nothing I can do.

    Hi,
It does sound like the issue is with your host. But it’s hard to know for sure without more information. Can you post a link? Do you know what version of PHP you’re running? Are you using the latest version of WordPress?

    Kindly,
    Hannah

    I’ve got PHP 7.4.30 and WP 6.0.1

I can’t stop trying. I thought of looking at the customise page using FF web developer and found this under debugger:

Uncaught SyntaxError: expected expression, got '<' customize.php:6260

I know html and css, but nothing about PHP, so I was hoping I could catch an obvious orphan “<” on that page, but no such luck.

Web search turns up nothing comprehensible to me.

I’ve been at this for two weeks.

    I’m afraid I can’t post a link — long story.

You need to update your PHP. Your host should be able to help you with this. I suggest updating to PHP 8.0+. Let me know if the issue remains after doing so.

    Hi Hannah,

Thanks for taking the time to answer me. My other WP sites are running that older PHP version without problem, so it didn’t occur to me that it might be the issue. I did change it to PHP 8.0.21 and the customise page is still just showing “you are cutomising [sitename]” at the top left — and nothing else.

Does the error message “Uncaught SyntaxError: expected expression, got ‘<‘ customize.php:6260” mean anything to you, or anyone else reading this?

If I just understood where to look for the problem, that would be a good start.

Like I said, I replaced the customize.php page with one from a clean install and it made no differene — so how could the problem be this page?
