First, I’ve used Directorist years ago and while i really liked it, it did not quite allow for the sort of membership site I was going for. And every single update basically wrecked any settings I’d made, and there seemed to be updates every other day.

So here is what I am currently using and what my needs are. I’m asking if Directorist, as it is today after all those evolutions, might work for me now.

I use Ultimate Member to handle registrations, profiles, user groups and page/content restrictions.

I do not need to automatically register anyone.

I’ve used PODS to add additional category taxonomies but if a plugin handles it I can remove some of those that might be redundant.

I’ve been using WPUser Frontend to allow internal front end posting, setting custom form fields and just operating it more like posts for listings. It works fine but does not have that directory or classifieds look to it.

I have an up to date theme that does NOT use blocks or page builders and I have no interest in changing themes.

None of the listings, at this time, will be paid listings. The use of the listing service is part of an overall premium membership package handled by UM.

UM has an account page so the “listing and viewing” pages need to be accessible that way, otherwise I will have to make text links to the Directorist pages, which is not ideal but I will live with it if it works otherwise.

Basically, all I need is a business directory and classified marketplace directory system that can be added to my theme and current registration system, play nice with it, and be customizable but simple.

Is the free version of Directorist compatible with my current solutions or should I pass it by again?

    Thanks!

  • Hey @delanataylor,

If I understand what you’re going for correctly, I’m sure Directorist will work great. Just one thing, I assume that you’re using roles that are made by Ultimate Member? In that case, you’ll just have to add the required credibility to those roles so that the users can submit listings. You can check WordPress’s default Subscriber role to get an idea on what credibilies are required for this. If you need, we can always help.

Yes I am using UM to assign the roles and permissions. Only the premium members would be authorized to use the form to post listings, whether that can be done through Directorist to restrict who can use the form to that group or by using UM’s content restriction and setting the page to be accessible to that group only.

I’d like two specific directories, using several set categories. One is a business directory that would include industry and location and the other would be similar to a simple marketplace for products / services, price range, demographic, and a few others, but that does NOT require a shopping cart or payment gateways. It’s closer to a catalog than a cart.

    Hey @delanataylor,

For restricting the Listing Form to only certain members, you’ll have to use UMs content restriction as directorist don’t have any restrictions in place.
