Different WordPress/Site Address URLs & using External File CSS Print Method
-
So on the WordPress Site we maintain we have two different values for our WordPress/Site Address URLs. (I will refer to our site in the example below as ‘mysite.com’)
General Settings of the WordPress Site: WordPress Address (URL): https://mysite.com/wp Site Address (URL): https://mysite.com
The reason we have this set like this is because we host multiple WordPress sites on our domain (we have many different ‘organizations’ using the same main domain and each could have their own WordPress Install so like ‘/org1’ | ‘/org2’ could each be a different WordPress Installation) and this main home site we want to have a home page of just mysite.com (no /wp), but we want to have all of our WordPress files for this site in that /wp folder and not just in root (because there are other folders on this domain for other departments WordPress Sites like with ‘/HR’).
This works, but with Elementor in order to get the CSS to show we have had to use the setting in Elementor for CSS Printing for “Internal Embedding” instead of using “External File” in order for our Elementor Changes to be pushed to the live site.
This is okay for now but I worry that it may have a performance impact on the site.
I assume this is because of the difference in WordPress Address and Site Address i.e. one with ‘/wp’ and one without ‘/wp’.
We did recently change from an old domain/directory on a server which did end ‘/wp’ in the URL so we used to be able to use the ‘External File’ setting. So it used to be stored and accessed by the public as “old-mysite.com/wp”. Client didn’t like having the ‘/wp’.
I have tried to use the option in ‘Tools’ for Elementor to ‘change URLs’ to both
https://mysite.com/wp
andhttps://mysite.com
but setting the URL to one or the other will not work. I have tried this in combination with Regenerate CSS & Data option.Nothing we tried so far will work unless we stick to Internal Embedding it seems.
I did read in the Elementor Knowledgebase website that having different values for WordPress and Site URLs could cause issues. So maybe finding a solution that will let us use CSS printing: ‘External File’ option will not be possible.
I was wondering if anyone has tried to do this before or if there is a work around for this somehow so we can use the ‘External File’ Setting in Elementor for CSS or if we are stuck to just using Internal Embedding for our Main/Home Site.
Thanks in advance.
