I had created a child page on my web site with the following custom permalink:

    https://www.rpsfilms.com/dates/2011

For some reason, WordPress is changing the URL by adding “-2” to the end – https://www.rpsfilms.com/dates/2011-2

I have tried editing the permalink in the “Edit Page” screen, but WordPress does not save my changes.

I DO NOT have any other pages created with the same permalink, so I don’t understand why WordPress is adding the “-2” to the URL. Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to be a feature that prevents users from accidentally using a page slug that may conflict with an archive year, month, or date slug (in this case the year 2011) or a post ID slug (you may have a post with an ID of 2011, if not you will some day).

Since this is a precautionary core feature, there’s really no way around it. I suppose you could use “twentyeleven” instead.

Make sense, although I DO have already have a permalink named https://www.rpsfilms.com/dates/2010 which WordPress doesn’t change. Go figure.

    Anyway, thanks for your help!

I decided to change the name of the permalink to avoid the problem. Thanks again!
