Hi I’m just setting up a blog, the worpress files downladed via c panel and I’ve gone to upgrade to version 3.0 and I get the message “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”

Can you advise if there is an error here or do I need to alter permissions somewhere as I have not come across this before in updating earlier versions.

    Thanks

Further to that I am seeing the permissions message via the following URL https://202.174.104.45/~wwwelit/wordpress/wp-admin/update-core.php

    Anybody had experience with this?

thanks esmi, had a look at that thread and not sure that I follow there appears to be a few different issues that users have had to deal with.
In my case it was a brand new install of 2.8 via cp addon scripts (my host cpanel doesn’t have fantastico)and I’m unable to do anything with it because if I try to go to find a theme I’m shown the upgrade to 3.0 bar and then I get the “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”

So I’m not sure if the issue could be a file didn’t load properly on the install or from other threads a possibility of issues with the hosting co’s settings?

I will try to uninstall and re install WP again – any thoughts?

    Hi fellow wordpress users.

Only took 2 hours to find the answer (Grin)
After searching all through the forums and getting strange fixes and such, (it looks like a lot of people have this problem) I found a fix that worked for me.
This of course this started when I pressed the auto upgrade button to upgrade to 3.0.2. Access Denied, “You do not have sufficient permissions”. What? Me? I have God permissions, Supreme being!, Hacker of all hackers, how dare my computer tell me I don’t have permission. First of course I went into the file editor on my site and checked permissions on update-core.php and gave it god power 777, that pissed it off. Put it back to 644. Back to the forum search on “You do not have sufficient permissions”.
After many suggestions and failed fixes, I found this one, it worked.

Go into your phpmyadmin pugam on your server.
    Select your database.
Select wp_options, look for db_version (mine was on page 2), edit it to 8204, save.

–<(Strange mine was set to 15477, after the change and upgrade its back to 15477 again, Hmm, if it works don’t f*ck with it (Grin)–<

Went back to Dashboard and pressed that upgrade option again. Poof!!!
It said I need a database upgrade, I said sure, why not, I like upgrades most of the time. After it did that, then it wanted to Upgrade WordPress to 3.0.2, I’m in shock, (More Coffee). After the spinning wheels, flashing lights, and the smoke cleared, it was done.
Now running 3.0.2 — (Crowd clapping in the background)

Hope this helps other Sys-Admins out there.
