[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] gallery will not display in page or post

I’ve installed wp 3 and NextGen
I’ve added and created this gallery in a page:
[album id=1 template=compact]
nothing shows. I’m a bit confused. it worked last night but between now and then it’s stopped working.
am I missing something here?
