Various Fatal Error Messages on trying to bulk change products

    I’m trying to bulk delete products from my catalogue (via category/other filters) and I’m failing each time getting a variety of different “Fatal Error Messages”

    I was previously getting memory exceeded type errors (consistently), so have now increased the WP memory to 512M, but I am now getting a different Fatal Error message on each attempt, for example:

    Can you try increasing the max execution time following the steps described here:

    Once that’s done, check to see if the issue disappears.

    OK, tried that (copied & pasted exactly as shown) and it broke the whole website (public access and admin)!!
    With:

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    I’m sorry to hear that the site crashed on you and simultaneously relieved that you had a back up ready to go. Kudos to you for thinking ahead.

    I do have an additional thing to try here that tends to help out sites with **time-out** errors. When reviewing the System Status Report, I noticed that PHP Time Limit was set to 30. Please update that to at least 300.

    This can be set by your host if you don’t feel comfortable changing that setting. Let us know how it goes!

    I added the line

    set_time_limit(300);

    after the line memory limit change, in the wp-config.php file.

    It is showing as changed in the WooCommerce status report, but attempted the same bulk delete action in products and left it for 10 minutes – just stuck on a blank screen, page refresh brings back “Error in moving the item to Bin.” (not a full system error message)

    …Beginning to think I may have to contact the host ??

    OK, host thinks it’s a plugin compatibility error with WP as:
    a) it still fails even when I only select 2 products for deletion via the bulk action, so there is something in that action that’s not able to complete
    b) it’s no longer returning a time-out / memory error message (after both have been increased) just a plain old error
    c) it’s only started doing this since WordPress was updated to 6.0
    d) nothing else on my website (public facing, or for admin) seems to be affected.

    Anyone able to check the WooCommerce plugin for known compatibility issues with WP 6.0?

    Anyone able to check the WooCommerce plugin for known compatibility issues with WP 6.0?

    To check if this error is caused by a conflict with your theme or with any of your active plugins, please follow the steps mentioned below:
    ?

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

    If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated.

    To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.

    Using a staging site would be a good idea. If your host doesn’t offer that option, we recommend WP Staging for quickly spinning up a new test site.

    You can find a more detailed explanation of how to do a conflict test here.

    Hi All, sorry for delay (had to wait to run the tests)

    I have turned off all plugins except woocommerce and same problem remains – can’t do any bulk changes!

    There are a couple of more steps that I can suggest to you after looking at your system status.

    PHP Max Input Vars: 1000
MySQL Version: ? 5.5.60-0+deb7u1-log - We recommend a minimum MySQL version of 5.6. See: WordPress requirements

    Increase the PHP Max Input Vars value to around 5000 or more. For that, you could contact your hosting provider or follow this article.

    Your WC database version doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. It should be MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.1 or greater. Read more on our server recommendations guide:

    @rainfallnixfig thanks – have updated the php.ini file but doesn’t seem to be having any effect. I will contact my host to see about that and the SQL version and report back…

    The SQL has now been updated to 5.7 and the fault is still there.

    I’m still awaiting host to update “PHP Max Input Vars” but I think we are grasping at straws with that option: this action can’t complete even when I’m only trying to delete 2 products at the same time. If the code is that inefficient to need more than 1000 vars to delete 2 products, then there’s surely something wrong??

    I really think this is the WooCommerce plugin.

    I think we are grasping at straws with that option: this action can’t complete even when I’m only trying to delete 2 products at the same time

    We’ll wait to see the effect of increasing the “PHP Max Input Vars” parameter.

    The resources utilized cannot perhaps be plainly calculated as 1000 vars to delete 2 products. If you see this document, the example value shown is 6000+. Please note that this is for any basic WooCommerce site, so when bulk actions such as yours are involved the requirement could be even higher.

    Please let us have an update after the “PHP Max Input Vars” is increased.
