Getting Widgets to show up on static home page instead of blog page

I have a standard text widget that I am using on this current theme and in addition I have the site set to show a static page as the home page as opposed to the blog page. For some reason the widget only appears on the blog page but not the home page (which is really the opposite of what I want).

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or a fix for this problem? Any help would be awesome.
