• Hi,

I would like to build a WordPress website for a walking club. The main feature would be the walks programme. Typically these would show a summary of the walks by date with a brief description and distance, with a button or link to show the details e.g full description with meeting point.

I would be grateful for any suggestions on how best to structure the site to achieve this e.g a Summary page linking to a post for each walk or a page with collapsible text to show the details (is this possible?)

    Thanks Pete

Perhaps one of the Events plugins?

Such plugins likely create a custom post type for event data, so your idea of having a post for each walk isn’t far off the mark. If you don’t need posts for blogging they could be used for walks. How posts are displayed would depend on your theme. Collapsed content is feasible, but may not be readily available in themes. It might require some custom coding. A list of posts with an excerpt that link to a post’s single page with full content is much more common.

So you could create something just using regular posts, but an events plugin will give you a lot more functionality that might be useful.

Thanks very much for your suggestions. I will explore the Events plugins and will probably keep things simple for time being. Luckily there is no time pressure on me so I can experiment with the different options.
