Homepage showing different categories

I’m trying to build a homepage for my theme which shows 6 blocks of the main categories I have in my website. Each block should show a bit of the latest article and the titles of the 3 previous articles.

When I look at excisting themes it’s just like it’s done in the comfy theme. Only I don’t want to have the useless Ajax features. ?? I tried to filter the code in that theme, but it’s to complex for me. I’m a designer and not a coder. Comfy is build up in widgets, but I don’t know if there is a easier way to do it.

Can anyone point me to:
– a easy customizable theme with this features
or
– help me with the code.
