Custom Add Media Page

  • Hi,

    I’m trying to write a custom Insert Media page. I’ve managed to add a button to the Upload/Insert row in the Edit Post panel, and that button links to a page that appears in the modal Upload iFrame when clicked, like the default Image/Video/Media upload pages. The problem is, I don’t know what WordPress files I need to include in my new page in order to be able to write to the database (I need to be able to add a custom field to the current post), and insert shortcode in the post content.

    I’m also wondering if I should attempt to add a new tab to the existing ones, and use the Add Media page, instead of a custom page. Is it possible in this case to only have such an extra tab appear only when the Add Media button is clicked (rather than also on the Add Video/Add Image pages)? I’m reluctant to go down this route at the moment, though, as I don’t currently need to use most the functionality the other Add/Insert Media pages provides (access to the Media Library, uploading etc.).

    I should add I’m using WordPress 3, and coding for that platform. I always forget to set the version when I post. Sorry about that.

    OK, I’ve decided to try adding a tab to the Media Upload page. Managed to add the tab using

    function ell_gmap_upload_tab( $tabs ) {
	$newtab = array('ell_insert_gmap' => __('Google Map', 'insertgmap'));
	return array_merge($tabs,$newtab);
}

add_filter('media_upload_tabs', 'ell_gmap_upload_tab');

    But I can’t now work out how to call a function to add content to the page when the tab is clicked. Do I use the ‘media_upload_form()’ hook, maybe? I can’t find any examples of how to use this hook.
