[Plugin: SEO Ultimate] Auto Generate Meta For Posts/Pages

  • Hello.

    I recently changed over to SEO Ultimate and so far so good.

    I have a feature suggestion I think the developer should highly consider. Since I am new with this plugin I can’t go back and add meta description and keywords to over 3000 posts so I think the plugin should allow auto-generation of meta description and meta keywords from information in the post.

    For example, meta description takes first few sentences of a post and meta keywords can use the post’s tags. Same thing for pages.

    Feel free to share your thoughts and/or support this feature request. I think it would be very useful.

    I’d also like to add that if an editor includes meta data within a post edit page it should overwrite the auto-generated meta data.

    In other words, I would enable the auto-generation for already existing posts but for posts from then on would manually type in keywords which would overwrite the auto-generated ones from the post’s tags.

    I hope that made sense. I think this would be a very beneficial feature. Please show support.

    I feel like I wrote a lot so I’ll break down what I’m looking for in a simple list:

    • option to auto-generate meta keywords and description from post
    • meta description would grab the first 160 characters in a post (first few sentences)
    • meta keywords would use a post’s category and tags
    • if custom meta is edited through a post edit screen it overwrites the auto-generated meta info
    • a mass edit meta description screen for posts/pages
    • a mass edit meta keywords screen for posts/pages

    I also wanted to add that auto-generated meta should only apply to single post pages and regular pages, not main index pages. This would prevent conflict of keywords.

    I noticed the recent updates included new changes to the meta options but no auto-generation or overwrite for custom meta. Is this still a planned feature?

    Yes, they are still planned features; I just didn’t get them done as soon as I originally planned.

    The new page excerpt option doesn’t work for auto-generation of meta descriptions for pages and posts.

    Also, any ETA on the auto-generation of keywords through tags? Besides for the other things in this thread.

    Yes, that would be awesome. Just that little thing with generating description in pages and posts, because that {excerpt} doesn’t work.
