Taxonomy Image

My understanding is that when an image is uploaded to the Media Library alternate sized copies are created (thumbnail, etc) as defined in the settings.

During the creation/editing of a post, the editor’s right side panel allows for the insertion of the appropriately sized image.

However, during the creation/editing of a taxonomy term (category, tag) there is a basic ‘select image’ dialog which loads the full sized version of the image.

Is there a method by which an alternate sized version of the image may be utilised in place of the original upload — or am I simply missing something?
