Woocommerce Tax Not Working

    I cannot get Woocommerce Tax to work and calculate tax. I created a test site, installed few plugins installed, have tried various configurations, and still no luck. I have read posts with same issue, and have tried different suggestions, if applicable, still no luck. I am open for suggestions. TIA

    I understand the taxes appear as 0.00 at checkout.

    Share a copy of your site’s System Status: You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.?

    Hi Igor, currently I do not have any records for standard rate. I deleted reduced rate and zero rate. I can upload .csv that I was trying to add to the standard rate.

    Please note that you need to add some rates in order for your products to be taxed. You can find detailed instructions here:

    This is part of the problem.

    If I have Automated Taxes Enabled, then I cannot add a tax records to standard rate, customized rate, reduced rate, etc. I can upload csv, but the record is lost once I leave page.

    If I have Automated Taxes Disabled, then I can upload a csv, the record remains. But the tax field disappears on checkout.

    Please note, the current state of site is Automated Taxes Enabled, and the tax field shows at checkout, but since there is no record, zero tax is applied. Also, I tried manually entering tax info, but the record is never saved.

    This is strange. You can perform a conflict test, please follow these steps:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce.
    • Try again to enter the tax info and save.

    If the issue is not present it means there was a conflict, and you can gradually enable the theme and plugins until the cause of the problem is found You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

    OK, the theme was not the problem. But, I had the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin active, and this was causing the problem/conflict. If the plugin is inactive, taxes work as expected.

    I assumed this plugin was necessary for taxes to work, but apparently not.

    Another thing I discovered, I entered .06 for rate expecting a 6% tax. But I need to enter 6 in rate.

    That’s correct. Basic tax functionalities are built into the WooCommerce core plugin. The “WooCommerce Shipping & Tax” extension is not mandatory. Its purpose is to offer some optional additional features, such as automated tax calculation, shipping label printing, smoother payment setup, and other hosted services for WooCommerce.

    Another thing I discovered, I entered .06 for rate expecting a 6% tax. But I need to enter 6 in rate.

    This is how it is supposed to work. Typing 0.6 will apply a 0.6% tax. If you’re looking for a 6% rate you should insert 6 instead in the “Rate %” field.
