    Hi YOAST team,

we have run into the following problem: our WordPress site using WPBakery as page builder is super slow in the backend – and this seems to be caused by YOAST.

    Why we think so?

We have run a plug-in conflict test and went through all plugins and as soon as we deactivate YOAST the load times for a page are reduced by 50% to an ok level.
We are talking up to 25 seconds with YOAST active and around 10 seconds with YOAST deactivated.

    Can you please help? Thanks!

    Lutz

  • Hey Lutz,

    Thank you for reaching out.

I understand you are having some real bad loading experiences on your dashboard, even without Yoast SEO, it even takes 10s to load, which is high too.

It’s hard to pinpoint what the exact cause could be, but even the 10 seconds you mention is really high. I would recommend checking a few things:

    – Are you running the latest versions of all plugins, themes, and WordPress core?
    – Investigate long queries with a plugin like Query Monitor.
    – Check if your web host runs a recent PHP version (PHP 7.4 recommended at this time)
    – Check if your web host meet our plugin requirements found here: https://yoast.com/help/plugin-requirements/
    – Check if there are any other issues found in Tools > Site Health and resolve them if any are listed.

    Good luck.

    Hey Jeroen,

    thanks for your reply!

I can say yes to all of the above general points and no apparent things pop up in Query Monitor.

What does show is the super high increase when YOAST is active.
So that is worth a look in itself, don′t you agree?

    Best

    Hi @effecticore

We recommend performing a conflict check, starting with a default WP theme and only the Yoast SEO 18.7 plugin enabled, and then enable your theme and plugins, one by one, until you’re able to reproduce the issue.

Just to clarify, with the query monitor plugin installed, there aren’t any slow queries being identified that is caused by the Yoast SEO plugin?

Could you also check if you’ve completed the SEO data optimization process under the SEO > Tools section?
