    Hi,

when updating to 4.5.92 all my downloads result in an error: “Access denied to this file, go to homepage”.

Only a rollback to 4.5.8 solves the problem. I know I am not the first and only with this problem. Is there already a solution for this?

    Regards,
    Torsten

    Hey @torstenheilig ,

Could you please tell me where are your downloadable files located?

    Warmly,

    Good morning,

they are located in /wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/documents/… and there distributed in some subfolders.

Thank you for the info. And if you go and create a Download and upload a file as you usually do, could you please tell me what is the file path displayed in the File URL(s) field from the Downloadable Files/Versions metabox after you hit the Publish/Save button?

    Warmly,
    Razvan

We are experiencing the same issue after updating to 4.5.8. Uploads are going to /wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/ as before. All our downloads are broken.

    Hi @gussalvador,

Can you please go to Tools > Site health > Info > Directories and sizes > and send me a screenshot with the info there?
For privacy reasons, you can sent it through our form here: download-monitor.com/contact/

I experienced the same problem because my download directory is outside my WordPress subdirectory.

To resolve the access denied error for my existing downloads, I edited the absolute path and changed it to a relative path:

    From: /home/[domain]/public_html/downloads

    To: ../../downloads

This fixed the issue for my configuration. I simply guessed the number of .. (parent) levels I had to use in the path relative to my WordPress subdirectory.

If the Download Monitor plugin developers change the ‘current directory’ variable to a different value, this solution may break.

    Hi,

I am sorry, I am still having lot of trouble when updating higher than 4.5.8. “Access denied to this file”. I just tried 4.5.99 but the problem stays.

Only a downgrade to 4.5.8 helps.

This really needs to be solved. How can this problem now can exist for so long?

    Regards,
    Torsten

    Hey @torstenheilig ,

Could you please tell me what host are you using? Some hosts have interesting configurations, where the uploads folder is a symbolic link to another path ( Pantheon for example ). If you navigate with FTP to WordPress’ uploads directory does it redirect you to another directory?

If you update to v4.5.99, go and create a Download like you normally do, what is the path of the file after you hit the publish/update button?

    Warmly,
    Razvan

    Hi Razvan,

it is “strato”, based in Germany.

I now updated a small version of my site “https://dresden.bettensteuer.de” to 4.5.99 – immediately the error occurs.

The new download uses this link:
    /wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/2022/09/Vdr22.044_Arbeitgeberbestaetigung.pdf

the eldery downloads look like this:
    /mnt/web102/d3/32/57718932/htdocs/WordPress_11/wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/documents/dresden/Arbeitgeberbestaetigung.pdf

Could you please tell when the WordPress directory location and Uploads directory location found in dashboard > Tools > Site Health > Info > Directories & Sizes ?

it does work, when I remove this part of the download link: /mnt/web102/d3/32/57718932/htdocs/WordPress_11

This is what directories and sizes is telling me:

OK, I see the difference now.

Your Downloads are pointing to /mnt/web102/ but your root and wp-content directories are pointing to /mnt/web006.

Could you please go to dashboard > Downloads > Settings > Advanced > Miscellaneous > Other downloads path and add /mnt/web102/d3/32/57718932/htdocs/WordPress_11 and see if this works? Please let us know if this worked for you.
