Creating a user-review community

I have only used WP for blogging. Today, I want to create a user-review membership site, that is, a site where users can post product reviews. My first inclination was to use Joomla, but I started to get the feeling that WP can handle this, but I’m still not sure.

I’m thinking that I can use s2member, BuddyPress, and Gravity Forms to allow users to subscribe, access existing reviews, and post their own reviews.

Is this going to work the way I want it to? I’m not certain that users will be able to post their own reviews without giving them complete control of WP. At least, I’ve heard of that kind of issue being a problem.

I am very open to other suggestions. This plan is the result of my very newbie research, so I’m not claiming this is a good approach. Feel free to point me in better directions.
