Hello, and thank you for these wonderful plugins,

I have a normal search form and a live search form powered by wp rest api, and i have tried both Relevanssi and Relevanssi Light plugins to include multiple terms and taxonomy search… and i was surprised when i noticed that Relevanssi Light is affecting my live search form just like the normal form, and that’s a feature i was looking for eagerly. the problem is that Relevanssi Light does not support taxonomy based search, and Relevanssi does not improve my live search form, and i do not feel comfortable about using both plugins at the same time.

My question is, do you know why Relevanssi Light was able to improve my live search form out of many other plugins that i have tried before, and will you be interested in adding that feature to Relevanssi in the future?

Yes, it’s not a good idea to use Relevanssi Light and normal Relevanssi at the same time.

The reason Relevanssi Light works with any live search form is that it does very little. It basically just switches on a setting in your normal WP search to make the search do better.

Relevanssi, on the other hand, does more of a different search, and if a live search plugin is hard-coded to use the default WP search, Relevanssi will be ignored.

This feature cannot be directly ported to normal Relevanssi, because of the way these plugins are built, but recently more and more live search features in themes have added filter functionalities that make it possible to replace the search engine that powers the live search. Perhaps your live search is one of these. Where is it coming from and how exactly is it implemented?

You mention WP REST API – that’s one catch, Relevanssi is disabled in the REST API searches. If your live search is using the REST API, then it’s probably hard to make it use Relevanssi as you’d need to create a new REST API endpoint for Relevanssi (you can use this plugin) and then you’d need to change the live search to use the new endpoint.

Thank you for the fast response and the clear and informative explanation. I am not using a plugin for the live search, so it’s up to me to figure out how make it work, fortunately i find the plugin you suggested very familiar so i will continue exploring it…

Thank you again and have a good day.
