image size and alignment

Hi,
Since my featured images are of dimension 1440*690 I would like the thumbnail to capture the whole image at the same time I do not want the entire block to get bigger.
I like the current size just that I want the whole image to be captured and spaced evenly.
I am looking at have 3 related posts only.
