restoring Blog

  • Hi,

    I have deleted a blog by mistake. I do not have a backup but I do have a copy of all the files (complete structure). The database was not deleted.

    I have copied all the files back to the same location and checked that wp-config file still refers to the correct database.

    Now when I go to either the blog or the admin all I get is a blank screen.

    I am at a loss as to what I have done wrong (apart from deleting it and not having a backup ?? ).

    Any help would be very gratefully received.

  • Do you have access to the server error log? Is there anything recorded?

    Try temporarily renaming the plugins directory in wp-content to see if that helps.

    I’m thinking that that should have worked.

    When you say “deleted a blog”, how exactly did you do that? If you can give more information, we might be of more help.

    (Good for you for having backup copies of the files and the database.)

    I had to replace the home page of the site and instead of just deleting the files of that I deleted everything – real dum but….
    So, in the structure public_html/blog I deleted the blog directory and all other files in the public_html folder.
    I did not delete the database.
    I then restored by copying the /blog structure back from the copy on my pc.
    I have tried renaming the plugins directory and that didnt help.

    Tricky one this as if you’ve done as you describe then theoretically it should all just be working now. You could try downloading a copy of the WordPress zip at whatever version you were using, and using that to overwrite the files, but it’s a stab in the dark really.

    Can anyone tell me if I install a new version of wpress which files should I then overwrite from my backup set to try and restore what was there.
