• Hi there,

I’m having trouble with my permalinks. I’ve installed WordPress 3.0 on a 1&1 hosting account (no shell access) and it went well with the exception of the permalinks. I have 2 problems:

    1) The permalinks don’t show unless I’m logged in, which means that visitors don’t see a permalink link.

    2) I’ve set the permalink format to custom, with /%postname%/ as the format, but when I do see the permalink links they are still in the default format like ?p=123.

As a side note, even when I had the permalink format on the default, the permalink links still didn’t show up unless I was logged in.

    Thanks,

    Bill Nelson

Sorry – forgot the link in case the problem needs to be seen:

i get to this post fine
    https://wezombie.com/the-walking-dead-the-movie/
which shows /%postname%/ is working fine – and I’m definitely not logged in

Sounds like the reverse of what I am currently dealing with.

After upgrading to 3.0, I added a page named “Contact.” I now no longer have access to my front page, yet I can access all others by using page/# or using a permalink for each post.

If this is offtopic, I apologize as for I just came across this post and gathered it was similar.

https://www.geoffsnyder.com (which now redirects to the new page “contact” for some reason)

    Thanks,
    Geoff

    Hi samboll,

Thanks for checking on that. So the permalink doesn’t show on the main page – just on the post’s page itself? I didn’t realize that’s how it worked. Thanks for your help!

    Bill.

    @samboll

I tried both. After further testing, I found the issue to do with the .htacess file. I installed Urban Giraffe’s “redirection” plugin and made a few adjustments after allowing for the logs to generate. All seems fine now.
