I used Rewrite & Republish to update the post linked above. After making my changes, I republished the changes.

However, when I go into the post, it gives me a message that “A duplicate of this post was made. Please note that any changes you make to this post will be replaced when the duplicated version is republished.”

It will not allow me to change the featured image (I change it, save, but it does not actually change).

I tried deactivating the plugin. And was able to save it with the new image. But once I reactivate the plugin, and edit the post I get the same message and it reverts to the original featured image.

I have looked and do not see a second copy of this post. How do I get it to recognize that this is the republished version?

I have solved my immediate issue by deactivating the plugin, changing the image, reactivating the plugin. But the post is still caught thinking there is a rewrite version still active. Is there a simple fix like when your site thinks it is stuck in maintenance mode?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hey @a2withkids

That’s definitely strange that using the rewrite and republish feature, after the republish, it would still show you the notification of ‘A duplicate of this post was made. Please note that any changes you make to this post will be replaced when the duplicated version is republished.’ on the republished post.

If you try it on another post, does it still occur? Or does it only occur on that specific post?

Could you also try testing this in troubleshooting mode in the Health Check plugin with only a default WP theme and only the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin to see if we can rule out any other plugin or theme conflicts? You can learn how to do a conflict check here – https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/

I have the same problem. I have a page that i tried the “Rewrite & Republish” function on. I can’t exactly describe what i did, maybe it was because we were logged in with two editors and maybe we edited at the same time??? The situation i have now is:

A page that continously notifies me about the duplicate post. But there is no duplicate of this page existing anywhere. Trash and Drafts are empty. This page will no longer let me use the “Rewrite & Republish” function on it, nor of any clone i make of it.

Here is a screenhots of the editor-page-list, trash, drafts and the editor.

(I can live with the error, since in my particular case i AM able still to edit and save changes on the page – unlike this guys – so the bug does not much harm here – i hope!)

    Please advise what to do.

I did manage to fix mine, but in a former life I was a programmer who stored data in databases.

I went in using SQL in cpanel, poked around on my tables, and found where the rewrite references – the new drafts were in the database, even though I didn’t see them on the front end. I manually used SQL to delete the drafts, and more importantly delete the rewrite reference.

I made sure to have a backup, but I don’t recommend doing this yourself unless you have some SQL experience.

Thanks. The database option is not for me, i’d kill the whole thing. I managed by thrashing the page and building it a new – in the end that was faster than any researching a solution. I stay away from the Yoast Rewrite function now.

    Hi @stephan1977m

We understand you are also experiencing this notification message of “A duplicate of this post was made. Please note that any changes you make to this post will be replaced when the duplicated version is republished.” but are unable to replicate the issue or find the referenced duplicate.

If you try this with a default setup with only a default WP theme and only the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin, does the notification still appear? If so, we recommend that you file a bug report herehttps://yoast.com/help/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/

Thank you @a2withkids for sharing your solution on how you were able to resolve this from your end, as it looks like it needed some modification with the entries in the database.
