• I need a ecommerce website that can handle bespoke/customizable products. This is what I require:

    Customer lands on website
    Customer finds product they like
Customer puts in their bespoke sizes they require the product to be
Customer chooses from a number of options to customize the product
The price of the product updates to reflect the customers choices
Customer can now proceed with purchase and place their order with us

I’ve worked with wordpress a lot over the last few years but haven’t done much in terms ecommerce. Are there ecommerce themes that are capable of handling customizable products etc? Are there any good plugins? Do I need to hire a web development expert to help build this functionality into a website?

Really appreciate any advice you have! Feel free to assume I know nothing about this!

  • I strongly suggest to try out the WooCommerce plugin. Easy to set up, and covers most of your requirements.

Thanks for the response! I’ll definitely check it out, does woocommerce have options like that for customising products / sizes? My impression was that it was more for static products like a ticket to an event etc, not where you could put in sizes for a bespoke product which updated the price?

Hope I’m wrong and it does what I need.

You can find several WooCommerce add-on plugins that provides more features to it.

Thanks for the help! When looking at themes, some class themselves as “woocommerce themes” Do you have to use one of these?/Is there a benefit to using one? Or does woocommerce work fine on most standard themes?

Is there a benefit to using one?

It depends. Some WooCommerce themes come with preloaded data so that your site looks exactly like the demo, and you just dedicate time to replace the products with yours.

Or does woocommerce work fine on most standard themes?

Usually, yes. But as stated above, some WooCommerce themes have neat features.
