• I’m not even sure if this is possible within wordpress, and if it does, I’m having a difficult time finding a good solution.

    The problem:

I have the index page displaying all post (like a portfolio gallery with thumb and title). When the user clicks on a single thumbnail, I would like a shadoxbox to open with select content. From inside of the shadowbox, there would be a link to the single post.

So I am wondering if there is a way to have a single post that the user creates, display in two different templates.

I have seen that I can get half of this to work using Category Templates but it will not solve my issue with a single post in two different templates. I do not want the user to have to create two different post and assign categories if its the exact same content.

So basically: paging displaying all post > Shadowbox of select single post items > single post.

If there is a better solution for this or any at all! Thanks

  • So, basically you’re just wanting the end-user to be able to see the post in two different ways, yeah? It doesn’t sound like you need two templates if you’re just wanting one of those ways to be in a shadowbox.

Have you seen the plugin Fancy Box? It should be able to put your post in a shadowbox, which can then be linked to the main post. There are other, similar plugins if that one doesn’t work well for you (do searches for shadowbox, fancybox, and lightbox in the plugin directory if you need to search; there are tons of these plugins). Unless you actually are going to have a different design/layout for the shadowbox version, it doesn’t sound like it’s necessary to have two templates going.

Yeah they would have two different layouts, in terms of mark.

The ‘shadowbox’ would have a video, title, share link, etc. while the full single post would have that information plus more. Ideally though, i would like all of that the information to come from a single post rather than separate.
