Things to know to restore a WordPress site

    Hi all,
    I have recently moved my site from Joomla to WordPress.
    Everything works like a charm, except that, for every update I wonder what to do just in case something breaks. For example, what can I do if I’m not able to access the Dashboard ? is there a procedure to rollback a wordpress update which will work even in the worst scenario?
    At the moment, I’m using the Updraft Plus plugin to do regular backups. However that still requires to access the Admin Site.

    There are only a few folders that are written to by the user. The most important are the wp-content and the upload folder, and the wp-config.php file in the root directory.
    Everything else is pretty much created by WordPress when it installs and can be overwritten.

    Even if these files are wiped out and you don’t have a copy it shouldn’t be too hard to just reinstall the themes and plugins. The worst might be losing your config folder because it holds your settings.

    The database however is the heart and soul of the site. Lose it and you’re pretty much screwed. Pretty much everything that WordPress creates in the database is critical. Keeping current copies of your database is the most important thing.

    If you reload an older version and drop your wp-config and wp-content files in you should be fine. The upload folder should contain your images. How the images are used is contained in the database. If you lose the upload folder your post and pages will still try to use the image files but will not be able to find them.
