Plugin update errors out

    When I try to update the Give plugin it takes forever (Seems to hang) and then I get the following error:
    The plugin give/give.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.
    Now it doesn’t show the plugin at all in WordPress so what do I do to fix this? Please help.

    Hi @excelc,

    The plugin cannot self-delete itself.
    Either someone is removing the files via FTP/SSH or your hosting provider is removing it.

    The exact cause for the error to happen is not clear, but fixing and resolving the issue is easy. Just try one of the following steps:

    1. Re-activate the plugin manually.
    2. Delete and then reinstall the plugin, then activate it.

    In some cases, the error message is appearing consistently and permanently and is shown triggered by the plugin that has supposedly been deactivated and removed. The cause for the issue is likely caused by unclean deactivation and uninstallation procedure that didn’t unregister the plugin from WordPress wp-options table, causing the plugin to still register itself as active.

    Be sure to back up first, just in case.
