Default og:image missing

    I have a few pages in our website where we don’t set the featured image expecting it will fallback to the default image we selected at Social -> Facebook -> Default image

    It used to work earlier but now it is no longer working.

    Currently, when a featured image is not set, the og:image tag is missing and not generated automatically.

    Note: I’m using the Yoast free version.

    Hello Amar,

    I am sorry that your fallback og:image for the news category page is not being picked up; I can confirm that og:image for https://www.geekdashboard.com/category/news/ is missing.

    Can you please confirm if you want the desired behavior for pages, posts or categories as the settings differ? To set a default image for a category, it should be done by editing the category, scrolling down to the Yoast SEO metabox and setting the image. Does this resolve the issue?

    It works when I manually edit a category and add a featured image. But I don’t want to do it.

    Since there are plenty of such categories, tags, posts, etc on my site, I want to use a default placeholder when I didn’t set a featured image manually.

    Is it possible? It yes, how can I do it?

    The og:image tag tries to draw from the following sources and if it doesn’t find any suitable image, goes to the next possible fallback in this order:

    -A user-defined image “Facebook image” in the Social tab of the Yoast metabox.
    -A user-defined “Featured image” for the page (only for posts).
    -A prominent image from the page’s content.
    -The “Social default image” from the template in Search Appearance.
    -The site’s fallback/default social image (set at SEO > Social > Facebook > Default image).

    Could you check if you’ve set fallback images for the category taxonomy in Search Appearance, and as well as under SEO > Social > Facebook?

    Hi

    I did the following to solve the issue:

    1. I removed the image that was already set at SEO > Social > Facebook > Default image.

    2. I added the same image again and Saved the settings.
